Women's Health

OUR STORY

Let’s face it: it can be awkward and uncomfortable to discuss certain gastrointestinal symptoms with just anyone. And for some women, finding a qualified female provider whom you can connect with, and talk to, is key. All women deserve quality, compassionate, healthcare, and there shouldn’t be any obstacles to obtaining this. Women’s Health is both a passion and priority of ours at Hunterdon Digestive Health Specialists.

Dr. Sinha is relatable, down-to-earth, and genuinely cares about you, and the quality of your healthcare. She has an energy about her that’s admirable and contagious, and a drive and a passion for her work that you don’t always see today in our business-oriented healthcare system. She is the best of both world’s: highly qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage a wide scope of gastrointestinal conditions, plus she is personable. Her expertise in patient consultation, progressive nutrition therapy, and healthy aging provides a comprehensive approach to your medical care that you won’t get just anywhere.

She isDUAL BOARD certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She has over 19 years of experience in GI with vigorous and extensive training in neurogastroenterology, motility disorders, various advanced endoscopic procedures including Barrx, sclerotherapy, radiofrequency, advanced cancer treatments, tumor ablation therapies, hemorrhoidal treatments (HET, Banding, IRC), and capsule endoscopy. Dr. Sinha provides care for all patients with gastrointestinal disorders but has special interests in: Celiac Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Reflux, SIBO, Eosinophilic Esophagitis, Motility Disorders, and Women’s Health issues.

Dr. Sinha completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Hahnemann University Hospital, Philadelphia followed by a three-year fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital, New York. She received advanced training by the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society at Temple University in Philadelphia, where she was trained in various motility disorders of the esophagus, small bowel, and colon.

Prior to her training as a physician Dr. Sinha worked as an optometrist.

She is a mother of two older children. She understands firsthand the challenges involved in raising a family and rearing well-developed, successful, and happy children, all while managing a career and business. She understands on multiple levels ¾ as a woman, mother, wife, and physician ¾ the value in staying active and healthy throughout all stages of your life, and the importance of feeling good about yourself and confident in all aspects of you.

Dr. Sinha firmly believes that in order to achieve optimal health and well-being, all components of your healthcare must be addressed. If your medical health is good, but your social or emotional health is compromised ¾ or if your confidence and happiness are lacking ¾ you may be less likely to maintain your health or comply with current screening guidelines or treatment recommendations. Just the same, if your health is compromised, sometimes feeling good about yourself externally can be the drive that allows you to continue on fighting through the storm of whatever health crisis you may be facing at that moment. Failing to address anyone piece to the complex puzzle of your overall health can significantly impact your quality of life and healthcare outcomes. At Hunterdon Digestive Health Specialists we see you as more than just a lab value or test result. You are a person with a family and friends, a career, hopes, and dreams. You have a story. It is our goal to provide you with quality, comprehensive, medical care close to home so that you can live your best life ever.

Advanced Medical Spa and Laser Center

Interestingly, a lot of the procedures that Dr. Sinha has been trained in as a gastroenterologist and optometrist overlap with many of the recently regarded medical spa procedures and beauty aids in high demand today including Botox, dermal fillers, vein and laser treatments. For years, she has extensively used these treatments in different ways to help patients with specific digestive disorders such as Achalasia. Botox is used in gastroenterology for swallowing disorders, and gastric motility disorders. Injections into the pylorus (a section of the stomach) improve gastric emptying. Radiofrequency ablation is used for the treatment of Barrett's esophagus, and sclerosing agents are used for esophophageal varices.

Dr. Sinha recognized this early on in the course of the medical cosmetic industry boom. After achieving and maintaining a goal of internal health for her patients, patients started to express a desire to combine their newly achieved inner beauty with a younger, rested, and more attractive external persona.

After diagnosing and removing colon cancer, then following patients through the long and arduous, exhausting, process of chemotherapy and radiation, patients would come back to Dr. Sinha grateful for her diagnostic skills. They’d make comments like, “This might sound petty and I know I should be grateful that I have my health…you saved my life…but I just don’t feel like myself anymore. I look in the mirror and I feel 30 years older. Do you have anything for that?”. Patients would laugh but Dr. Sinha realized her work wasn’t done. Patients would express similar remarks after going into remission from Inflammatory Bowel Disease or other chronic immunologic disorders. Dr. Sinha wanted to help these patients. She saw an opportunity to make a difference in their lives by offering treatments that complimented the procedures she was already trained in medicine to perform. Already being trained in these procedures from a GI background presented a natural opportunity to add similar treatments to her current practice for cosmetic purposes to improve the lives of her patients.

Botox is often used as a treatment for certain GI disorders like Achalasia where the muscle at the end of the lower esophagus (or lower esophageal sphincter) is stuck in a continuous state of excitation. This muscle can’t relax and patients have difficulty swallowing. Botox is used during upper endoscopy to relax the lower esophageal sphincter and provide patients with relief of their symptoms. Post endoscopy, patients would joke, “Can’t you save some of that Botox and use it on my face for my crow’s feet?”. While these types of comments might have been funny at the time, Dr. Sinha took them to heart. Being trained in optometry and having a detailed knowledge of the muscles that surround the eye, she realized she had an opportunity to help these patients, too.

More and more, she saw how important it was for patients to not just BE healthy, but to FEEL good and confident about their appearance, too. One of her earliest patient memories that contributed to her passion for aesthetic medicine was a patient who asked her at the bedside just prior to her colonoscopy, “Can’t you do my liposuction during my colonoscopy? My belly got really big after menopause and I just can’t stand it! I don’t feel like myself anymore.”. It might sound superficial to some but Dr. Sinha saw more to this patient’s verbiage than just humor.

Quality of life, optimal health, and longevity have many components, and one of these is confidence. Feeling good about you externally is just as important to your overall health and well-being as anything else, and this shouldn’t be minimized, undermined, or ignored. If Dr. Sinha ignored this patient’s sense of confidence and self-esteem, she would have been ignoring a huge component of her overall well-being. We want you to return for your repeat surveillance colonoscopies in 3 or 5 years. We want you to feel good about you both inside and out so that you’re more inclined to put the effort into your physical health and follow through with preventative health recommendations, and screening procedures like colonoscopies and mammograms. We want you to see value and worth in prioritizing your healthcare needs, and quite often confidence and self-esteem help us to do this. Health comes first, then, beauty and confidence will follow! But just the same, beauty and confidence can play a large role in encouraging healthy habits. When we feel good about ourselves we’re more motivated to remain healthy.

So due to her own personal interest in the field, a genuine desire to help her patients, and a true belief that inner confidence feeds overall health and well-being, Dr. Sinha became intrigued with the idea of helping woman both maintain good health from the inside and achieve natural rejuvenation and external beauty, too. Truly wanting to improve the lives of her patients she researched these procedures and became trained in advanced cosmetics. She pursued advanced training by receiving a diploma in Aesthetic Medicine from the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine followed by additional national and international training. Then, in one room in her prior office building, she started offering medical cosmetic procedures to help boost her patient’s confidence and self-esteem. This one-room expanded to an entire second practice: Advanced Medical Spa and Laser Center

As a dual board-certified Internal Medicine Physician and Gastroenterologist, Dr. Sinha understands that sometimes external beauty isn’t just as simple as fixing someone’s crow's feet. She understands on a deeper level the importance of identifying and treating underlying medical conditions that may lead to cosmetic concerns. For example, Hirsutism, or stiff or dark body hair appearing on places where women don't commonly have hair, like the face, chest, lower abdomen, and inner thighs, can result from high androgen levels that may be seen in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), Cushing Syndrome, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, and rarely as a result of some androgen-secreting tumor of the ovaries or adrenal glands. Some medications can also cause hirsutism. If the underlying cause of hirsutism is not addressed, no cosmetic procedures will be successful long-term in managing unwanted hair.

Dr. Sinha herself suffered from melasma after her pregnancies. She understands firsthand the emotional and physical challenges this condition can present. In many ways, her personal experience with melasma guided her desire to help patients struggling with cosmetic concerns. She knows firsthand that when we feel good about ourselves we’re more likely to play an active role in our everyday lives and preventative health. We’re more likely to be happy and healthy. Feeling good about you is one of the best predictors of happiness in life. At Hunterdon Digestive Health Specialists we relate to and empathize with your concerns.

Having an internal medicine foundation as the basis of her training Dr. Sinha understands the complexity of different disease states. Internal Medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of internal diseases. She is skilled in recognizing the different presentations of varying disease states. Many endocrinopathies (like diabetes, PCOS, thyroid disease, Addison’s disease, Cushing’s Syndrome) present with skin manifestations. She has a niche for picking up on the signs and symptoms of these diseases. This allows her to address your concerns and treat your health on a more comprehensive level.

With 17 years of experience in private practice and renowned acclaim for her medical, nutritional, procedural, and surgical expertise in combination with Dr. Sinha’s unique background and experience in internal medicine, advanced GI procedures, and optometry she has employed her experience and passion to enhance the beauty of her patients through the services offered at Advanced Medical Spa and Laser Center. Dr. Sinha has the skill-set to help you achieve both inner and outer beauty, confidence, and natural rejuvenation.

While her primary focus as a physician will always be your medical health and wellbeing first, she is there for you to treat all components of your person. She will always strive for health first but after those needs are met she is ecstatic to address your cosmetic concerns with the goal of improving your overall happiness and confidence.  Now with extra time from being an empty nester she has expanded her practice hours to open up more time for both GI and cosmetics to meet and fulfill the demands of her patients.

Dr. Sinha’s Advanced Medical Spa and Laser Center is a state of the art facility.

The grand opening was celebrated in 2018 with the mayor of Flemington in attendance…

As the Director of Advanced Medical Spa & Laser Center, Dr. Sinha has incorporated best practices and the most current medical technologies in order to heighten the youthful appearance of her patients.
