Nulytely / Golytely / TriLyte
We recommend you to purchase Nulytely/Golytely/TriLyte at least one (1) week prior to the procedure and review these instructions to avoid last minute confusions. Also, purchase two (2) Dulcolax Tablets at least one (1) week prior at your pharmacy and review instructions then as well.
- If you are taking Aleve, Nuprin, Motrin, Iron Supplements, Celebrex, Naprosyn, or Vitamin E, you must stop taking them seven (7) days prior to the procedure. You may use Tylenol.
- If you are a diabetic—to avoid dangerously low blood sugars, please inform your physician regarding your insulin or diabetic medication so it may be properly adjusted. If you are unsure about taking any medications, please call our office.
- IF YOU ARE TAKING COUMADIN, ASPIRIN, TICLID, OR PLAVIX, IT MAY NEED TO BE STOPPED BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE PLEASE ASK YOUR DOCTOR FOR INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING THESE MEDICATIONS.
- If you are a smoker, it is advised not to smoke at least six (6) hours before your procedure.
PREPARATION THE DAY BEFORE
Please be on a clear liquid diet the day prior. Examples are Water, Gatorade, jello, tea, apple juice, chicken broth (nothing creamy or chunky), popsicles, Italian ice, etc. NO MILK PRODUCTS OR ANYTHING COLORED RED OR PURPLE,no seeds or nuts OR ALCOHOL.
In the morning:
- Choose one of the flavor packs and add it to the four-liter bottle. Shake well to adequately mix the flavor pack with the powder.
- Add water to the fill line and shake well until the powder has dissolved.
- Refrigerate until ready to drink.
- If you are taking other medications ask you doctor if you need to adjust your dosing.
In the evening:
- Begin drinking the solution between 4 PM and 6 PM. Drink an 8 ounce glass of the solution every 15 minutes. It is recommended that you drink the whole glass rapidly rather than taking small sips.
- Keep drinking the solution every 15 minutes until the bottle is empty.
- One hour later after finishing bottle, take 2 Dulcolax tablets.
- Bowel movements should begin approximately one (1) hour after the first glass of the solution. They will continue for several hours after you finish drinking the last glass.
- Feeling of bloating, abdominal fullness, and nausea are common after the first glasses of the solution. This is temporary and should subside once bowel movements begin.
- Do not eat any solid food. You may drink water or other clear liquids recommended by your physician.
NOTHING TO DRINK AFTER MIDNIGHT. Failure to take the preparation as indicated may result in a poorly cleansed colon.
